Baby Alpaca Care
Care for the material, preserve its character.
Baby alpaca fiber is naturally resilient and responds best to considered care. Different constructions require different handling, from fur pieces to woven textiles. Follow these simple care recommendations to keep the fibers looking and feeling their best.

Care Guide
Care & Longevity
Designed to be lived with
Baby alpaca is naturally resilient, but different constructions require different care. A fur rug, a woven throw, and a small accessory should not be maintained in the same way.
Gentle handling, limited washing, and proper storage will help preserve the softness, texture, and character of each Alpaca Gold Standard® piece over time.
Baby Alpaca Fur
Preserve the natural surface
Baby alpaca fur responds best to restrained care. Frequent washing is unnecessary and should be avoided.
Routine care
Gently brush the fur in the natural direction of the fibers using a soft garment brush. This helps restore the surface after use and keeps the pile even and well groomed.
For rugs and runners, loose surface dust may be removed with a vacuum on low suction, without a rotating brush or aggressive attachment.
Smaller pieces may simply be shaken lightly and brushed when needed.
Spills and marks
Attend to spills promptly.
Blot gently with a clean, absorbent cloth rather than rubbing the surface. For minor marks, spot clean only, using as little moisture as possible.
Do not saturate the fur or allow water to soak through the backing.
Allow the piece to dry naturally at room temperature and gently brush the fibers once fully dry.
Avoid heat
Do not expose alpaca fur to direct heat.
Avoid tumble dryers, radiators, heated drying, hot air, and prolonged direct sunlight. Heat can affect both the fiber and the underlying construction.
Professional cleaning
For deeper cleaning, difficult stains, or larger pieces, professional cleaning is recommended.
Choose a cleaner experienced with natural fur or specialty animal fibers and provide the product's care information before treatment.
To preserve the vibrant hues and soft texture, we suggest displaying your items in a shaded area or rotating them to minimize sun exposure.
Woven Baby Alpaca
Wash only when necessary
A woven baby alpaca piece generally requires less washing than conventional household textiles. Airing it between uses is often sufficient.
When washing is needed, use a cold wool cycle with gentle agitation.
Use only a small amount of detergent suitable for wool or delicate natural fibers.
Do not tumble dry.
After washing, reshape the piece gently and allow it to dry naturally. Avoid wringing, twisting, or hanging the piece in a way that places unnecessary weight on the wet fibers.
Keep it away from direct heat and strong sunlight while drying.
Maintain the surface
Light creasing generally relaxes naturally through use. Avoid excessive friction, aggressive brushing, or treatments intended for heavier fabrics.
The fringe (if applicable) may be gently arranged by hand if necessary.
Storage
Give the material room
Before storing any alpaca piece, make sure it is completely clean and dry.
Store in a cool, dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
Avoid long-term compression of fur pieces, as this can flatten the pile. Woven pieces may be loosely folded.
For seasonal storage, use a breathable protective covering rather than an airtight plastic bag.
Material Details
Some Alpaca Gold Standard® pieces combine baby alpaca with materials such as Alcantara, leather, satin, metal hardware, or supportive inserts.
Avoid soaking these components or applying cleaning products directly to them unless specifically intended for that material.
For mixed-material pieces, always follow the most delicate applicable care method.
When in Doubt
Less intervention is usually better
Baby alpaca does not benefit from frequent washing or aggressive treatment. Gentle maintenance and attention to small marks as they occur are usually enough to preserve its natural character.
